Jeff Buckley Grace Legacy Edition Blogspot
I searched for a thread on this release in particular but couldn't find one. A few mentions in other threads but nothing all that in depth. So, I finally got around to doing a side-by-side comparison of the 1994 CD and the 2004 remaster that I bought a couple of weeks ago. A few observations of the first disc featuring the original album remastered: This disc is just a notch louder than the original but there seemed to be no glaring examples of the overuse of compression. While the original had a lovely dark quality to it, the remaster is brighter.
Just on the first track I noticed that Jeff's voice had less body to it and more sibilance. Sounds such as lips smacking and breathing noises had harsh edges where they sounded crisp or at the very least lacked harshness on the original. The Ultimates Vol 3 Torrent here.
Jeff Buckley brought a depth to his music and the world he lived in that is uncommon, to say the least. Jeff Buckley's 'Grace' Legacy Edition. Better Jeff Buckley. The versions of some of the bonus material on the 'Grace Legacy Edition' CD were remastered.
The background isn't nearly as black and the overall sound of the remaster tends to be a bit fatiguing. If this edition were solely a re-release of the original album content, I'd definitely pass on this one. Disc two offers a few gems, but most of this content could have (or should have) been left out. Lost Highway, Mama, You Been On My Mind and Parchman Farm Blues are nice covers, but not essential Buckley material. The Other Woman is fairly weak compared to Jeff's other (fantastic) Nina Simone cover 'Lilac Wine' featured on the original album release.
